There were several excerpts from Ulysses published over the years in translation into Russian with the full translation (in a book format) appearing only after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
No Ukrainian translation was available (except for some small excerpts) until July 2015 – it is this newly published translation that has triggered my comparative itch and provoked me into writing this essay.

The rest of the quotes do not need my commentary either – their failures self-evident: they are not translations are fruitless, unsuccessful and vain attempts to write “like Joyce” but since the translators are far below Joyce in their verbal skills all their efforts are botched.
They read like bad parody of Joyce and the further we get into the novel the more miserable the translations look.
